Conference on literary translation with the participation of two Italian women writers, Clara Nubile and Laila Wadia. The first presents a paper titled: The beautiful art of losing, the second a paper on the topic: How do you translate “khandivialgia “? Self -translation, transcreation and translingual poetry in the works of contemporary writers migrants in Italy.
Clara Nubile is a writer and a literary translator, currently based in Mumbai where she teaches Italian at the University. She has been translating fiction for the last 17 years. Among her translations from English into Italian, Life of Pi by Yann Martel, Swamplandia! by Karen Russell; Drugstore Cowboy by James Fogle, Everest Hotel by Allan Sealy, the works by Paramhansa Yogananda and the complete series of Young Sherlock Holmes by Andrew Lane.
Laila Wadia was born in India, but now lives in Trieste, Italy. Passionate about food, migration, identity and women’s issues, she writes mainly in Italian: short stories, novels, poetry, screenplays for theatre and film and has won several awards for her work. She teaches English at the University of Trieste, Italy, and is also a journalist, translator and interpreter.
