The Italian Book Club is back this September with a literary gem: Canne al vento (Reeds in the Wind) by Grazia Deledda, Nobel Prize laureate and one of Italy’s most celebrated female authors.
Set in early 20th-century Sardinia, the novel tells the story of three aristocratic sisters and their loyal servant, trapped between tradition, guilt, and the changing world around them. With poetic language and powerful symbolism, Canne al vento explores themes of fate, social decline, and redemption.
Reading Deledda means discovering a unique female voice in Italian literature—intimate, lyrical, and deeply human—whose work still resonates today.
