The Italian Book Club in Mumbai meets again on 19th September (Thursday) at Title Waves Bookstore in Bandra West. This time, the book club’s discussion features Elena Ferrante’s critically acclaimed novel, “My Brilliant Friend / L’Amica Geniale”.
Reading My Brilliant Friend by Elena Ferrante, that in Italian goes as L’Amica Geniale, is like a ticket to Naples. The novel tells the story of the tumultuous friendship between two young girls, Elena and Lila, growing up in the suburbs of Naples. The narrative is compelling and intertwined with the complexities of relationships, the role of women in society and growing up in a neighbourhood marked by poverty and inequality. Theshought-provoking explorations of Ferrante transcends cultural boundaries and assumes a universal meaning.
Members will have the opportunity to delve into the intricate world of Ferrante’s characters, explore themes of identity and ambition and immerse in the rich and vibrant Italian culture of Naples.
Participants can read the book in Italian or in English.
