{"id":5747,"date":"2026-09-23T11:24:24","date_gmt":"2026-09-23T05:54:24","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/iicmumbai.esteri.it\/?p=5747"},"modified":"2026-09-23T12:01:05","modified_gmt":"2026-09-23T06:31:05","slug":"contemporary-artists-books-and-historic-manuscripts-a-dialogue-between-india-and-italy","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/iicmumbai.esteri.it\/en\/news\/dall_istituto\/2026\/09\/contemporary-artists-books-and-historic-manuscripts-a-dialogue-between-india-and-italy\/","title":{"rendered":"Contemporary Artist&#8217;s Books and Historic Manuscripts: A Dialogue between India and Italy"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Italian Cultural Institute in Mumbai is pleased to announce the exhibition featuring the works of <strong>Indian artist <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pixiebks.com\/about\">Priya Pereira<\/a><\/strong>, whose distinctive artist\u2019s books enter into dialogue with the historic collections of the <strong>Biblioteca Riccardiana in Florence<\/strong>, with the support of the <strong>Embassy of India in Italy<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Bringing together contemporary artistic expression and centuries-old manuscripts, illuminated miniatures and early printed books, the exhibition highlights a connection between works created in different places and periods, united by their shared emphasis on uniqueness, craftsmanship and the materiality of the book.<\/p>\n<p>Pereira\u2019s artist\u2019s books challenge the traditional structure of the book through the use of handmade paper, acrylic, metal, mirrors, textiles, stones and natural fibres, inviting visitors to experience the book not simply as a vehicle for written knowledge, but as an object of artistic and visual expression.<\/p>\n<p>The works are presented alongside treasures from the Riccardiana collections, revealing unexpected connections between forms, symbols and materials.
