Francesca Marciano at GALF

Francesca Marciano is an Italian novelist, filmmaker, and screenwriter. To date Marciano has written four novels: Rules of the Wild, listed as one of the NYT notable books of the year, Casa Rossa, The End of Manners and The Other Language, her first collection of short stories. When she writes for film and television she uses her native tongue, but for novels and short stories she uses English. She knows how to hold a reader’s attention, how to set a scene. Her dialogue, unsurprisingly, is always fluid.

Marciano has lived all over the world, and her stories encompass her experiences, taking place in Africa, the U.S, India, and of course, Italy. Her characters are often women who live abroad, are alone and free from their domestic routines, if only temporarily. Marciano’s stories are never less than engaging, as she brings to life characters stepping outside their boundaries into new passions and destinies, exploring the power of change—in relationships, in geographies, and across cultures—she reveals unexpected aspects of ourselves.

From inception in 2010, the unique, homegrown, volunteer-driven and non-profit Goa Arts and Literature Festival (GALF) has rapidly emerged as one of the premier cultural showcases of India. GALF was founded to celebrate what is usually considered the margins, taking inspiration from  the noted poet of Goan origin, Eunice de Souza. Over the past five years, GALF has grown in size, stature and significance while retaining its emphasis on, both, serious deliberations and convivial atmosphere, as well as building meaningful connections with the finest writers, poets, artists and musicians from around the subcontinent and beyond.
