16 Days of UN Women Activism against Gender Based Violence | Empowerment Self Defense Project by NGO ReCreate – 25 November – 10 December

On the occasion of the 16-days UN Women campaign to eradicate violence against women (November 25 – December 10, 2020), the Consulate General of Italy in Mumbai strongly supports ReCreate’s project to prevent gender-based violence.

ReCreate is a Mumbai based NGO, which conducts a series of workshop on line, for free, in collaboration with a network of local NGOs.

The workshops are aimed at building self-confidence and, through techniques of self-empowerment, to exercise self-defence.

Designed and successfully implemented by NGO NoMeansNoWorldWide, the method has been re-elaborated and adapted by ReCreate who is now presenting it in India for the first time.

None of the techniques imply the use of body force: they are all meant to teach how to use voice, postural behaviour and mental attitude to react against gender-based violence.

Data shows that violence against women and girls, against children and LGBTQs, is rising alarmingly across the world and the 2020 pandemic has weakened the possibility for the most fragile to receive adequate assistance.

By supporting ReCreate’s project the Consulate General of Italy lends a hand to civil society, which is at the forefront in helping communities to get through these challenging months.

Solidarity is key. Let’s keep working together for a more equal future for all.
