Italian Art History Lecture Series by Dr Reshma Nayyar | Illusionism in Italian Ceiling Painting

In ceilings and domes located in Renaissance and Baroque palaces and churches across Italy, innovative artistic techniques were used to create spectacular large-scale fictive decorations that left contemporary viewers spellbound. This series of six lectures will situate a selection of masterpieces in their broader cultural contexts while addressing various techniques used to enhance the illusionism of painted domes and vaults in the fifteenth, sixteenth and, seventeenth centuries.
