Remembering Dante: A New Beginning.

On 26 October 2021, on the occasion of the XXI Week of the Italian Language in the World dedicated to the 700th Anniversary of the passing away of Dante Alighieri, Istituto Italiano di Cultura in Mumbai, the Asiatic Society of Mumbai, Consulate General of Italy Mumbai and Centre for European Studies of the University of Mumbai, in the presence of the Italian Ambassador to India Vincenzo De Luca, celebrated an evening dedicated to the great poet.

On exhibition was the manuscript preserved at the Asiatic Society of Mumbai: one of the oldest preserved texts of the Divine Comedy.

During the presentation, the students of Italian at the Center of European Studies of the University of Mumbai read passages from the poem in Italian, Hindi, Bengali, Urdu, English and Tamil.

Ambassador De Luca thanked the students for deploying the music of Dante’s verses in multiple languages, sounding so different from each other, but all resonating in the soul of every person, independently of their nationality.
