“HABITAT 3” – Eugenio Tibaldi’s Installation at Kalaghoda Arts Festival 2023

Istituto Italiano di Cultura di Mumbai is very pleased to partner with Kalaghoda Arts Festival & Sir J.J School of Arts in bringing Italian artist Eugenio Tibaldi for the “Kalaghoda Arts Festival 2023”.

Curated by Vikram Arora, the installation will be on display from 4-12 February 2023 at the east wing passage of the Army Navy building, Churchgate, Mumbai.

WORKSHOP WITH STUDENTS OF SIR J.J SCHOOL OF ARTS

Eugenio Tibaldi will be working with the students of Sir JJ School of Arts, Mumbai over a period of 3 days. The interactions between the students and the artist will be the foundation to actualize a temporary installation for the Kalaghoda Arts Festival.

CURATOR’S NOTE

“Set against the Bombay Gothic style Army Navy building, this is the perfect example of Adaptive Reuse, wherein an old building is reused for a purpose other than what it was designed for as time progressed.

The installation investigates new provocations in both subject and form – the process of creating a habitat within the urban landscape with found objects discarded in the city. These found objects (once owned by us) function as vessels of our histories, emotions and memories. Now restored in a new form they turn into a habitat.” (Vikram Arora)

ABOUT THE ARTIST

Eugenio Tibaldi (1977), an artist who has always been attracted by marginal dynamics and aesthetics, by the complex relationship between economy and contemporary landscape. Born in Alba CN, in 2000 he moved to the Neapolitan hinterland where he began a work that investigates one of the most plastic and dynamic territories in Italy and to draw a sort of map of informality. The margin, usually understood as a condition that is often more mental than geographical, a procedural dynamic when applied to artistic research, allows the emergence of alternative aesthetics.

In recent years he has worked in Istanbul, Cairo, Rome, Thessaloniki, Berlin, Verona, Havana, Bucharest, Turin, Caracas, Brussels, Tirana, and Addis Ababa.
