Residential scholarships for the “Vittore Branca” Centre, Venice

Centro “Vittore Branca” 2027

The Giorgio Cini Foundation is offering nine 2-month “Vittore Branca” residential fellowships for the year 2027. The fellowships cover the costs of staying at the “Vittore Branca” International Centre for the Study of Italian Civilization on the island of San Giorgio Maggiore in Venice.

The initiative is open to Italian and international master’s students, PhD candidates, and postdocs who are under 40 years of age as of June 30, 2026. Applicants must submit a research proposal of approximately 1,500 words focused on Italian civilization, with particular attention to Venetian civilization and preferably based on the archival materials held by the Giorgio Cini Foundation.

Eligible disciplines include: art history, history of Venice, literature, musicology, music, ethnomusicology, theatre, rare books, comparative civilization and spirituality, and digital humanities.

Applications must be submitted in .pdf format to the Centre’s Secretariat at the email address: centrobranca@cini.it by 11:59 p.m. on June 30, 2026. The selection process includes a videoconference interview, to be conducted in Italian or English. The results of the evaluations will be communicated to all applicants by October 2026. The fellowships may be used between January and December 2027.
