Istituto Italiano di Cultura (IIC) di Mumbai, in collaboration with The Asiatic Society of Mumbai, present “Tibet and the Indian Subcontinent in the Eyes of a 20th-century Italian Scholar” by Prof. Giacomella Orofino, University of Naples “L’Orientale”. Prof. Orofino presents the English translation of Giuseppe Tucci’s biography by Alice Crisanti and offers a lecture on Giuseppe Tucci – one of the best-known experts on Oriental studies of the 20th century, especially of Tibet and Buddhism.
Through the life story of Giuseppe Tucci, one of the most remarkable scholar in the history of Oriental Studies of the past century, this presentation explores the complex connection between his personal life and the historical and cultural context of his time. Alongside his significant contributions to Indology and Tibetology, acknowledged as foundational by international scholars, emerges the portrait of an intellectual who navigated the complexities of the twentieth century, leaving a profound mark on Italian culture and playing a crucial role in fostering academic dialogue between Italy and India.

La prof.ssa Giacomella Orofino è professoressa ordinaria di Lingua e Letteratura Tibetana e Civiltà e Religioni Indo-Tibetane presso l’Università degli Studi di Napoli “L’Orientale”. È presidente del Centro Studi Buddhisti dell’Università Orientale, socio fondatore e presidente dell’Associazione Italiana di Studi Tibetani, Himalayani e Mongoli (AISTHiM) e socio fondatore dell’Organizzazione Non Governativa ASIA onlus (Associazione di Solidarietà Internazionale in Asia). È Principal Investigator dell’unità di ricerca “Modelli e dinamiche della trasmissione buddhista in Asia” presso l’Università di Napoli “Orientale”, dove ha organizzato numerosi eventi scientifici e culturali. I suoi principali interessi di ricerca si concentrano sulle tradizioni mistiche ed eterodosse del buddismo tibetano, sulla religione Bon, sulla tradizione Rdzogs chen Bon, Gcod e Ris med. |
