Cinema Italian Style, held over three vibrant and joyful days at Regal Cinema in Colaba from 27th to 29th of September, was a resounding success, drawing enthusiastic participation from the city’s film specialists and the general public.
Introduced by Walter Ferrara, Consul General of Italy in Mumbai and Francesca Amendola, Head of the Istituto Italiano di Cultura, in collaboration with Shivendra Singh Dungarpur of the Film Heritage Foundation, the festival welcomed Oscar-winning Italian director Giuseppe Tornatore on his first visit to India. Tornatore led two masterclasses, where he recounted key episodes from his career and shared the story behind Cinema Paradiso. His discussions on cinema’s power to transcend boundaries became a major highlight. Giovanni Ottonello also delivered a masterclass on symbols and icons in cinema, exploring how visual symbolism shapes storytelling and audience perception.
Additionally, the festival audience enjoyed on the big screen the viewing of some of the restored masterpieces of Italian cinema by legendary directors such as Luchino Visconti, Federico Fellini, Vittorio De Sica and Sergio Leone —an unforgettable journey through Italy’s rich film heritage.
We extend our deepest gratitude to our partners as well as all participants and associates, for making Cinema Italian Style a success story!
