SONIC TIES: a musical encounter between Carnatic tradition and Mediterranean jazz

IMG_2998

With two concerts in Mumbai and Bangalore, Sonic Ties offered an engaging musical dialogue between Italy and India, connecting Carnatic classical music with Mediterranean jazz, enriched by elements of contemporary electronic music. The events took place on 27 March 2025 at the NCPA in Mumbai and on 31 March 2025 at the Bangalore International Centre.

The project was presented by the Consulate General of Italy in Mumbai, the Consulate General of Italy in Bangalore, and the Italian Cultural Institute of Mumbai.

The stage featured highly experienced musicians: vocalist Bindhu Malini, percussionist Pramath Kiran, saxophonist and electronic music specialist Enzo Favata—creator of the project—and pianist/keyboardist Fabio Giachino. Together, they created a soundscape that brought together distinct musical traditions through original arrangements and moments of improvisation.
